Video cable connections
|
| |
Hi,
I received my Sp2000 mainboard today, and I'm eager to build my system.
I'm a bit confused as which pins I need to use for the video cable. I have
an Amstrad CTM644 monitor which I use with my +3 - it has the following
connections on the RGB socket:
2 - GND
4 - composite sync
6 - green
7 - red
8 - blue
Which should I connect these to on the Sprinter 15-pin cable?
Thanks,
Garry

Hi Davide,
A guru? Perhaps I should grow a beard ;-)
Thanks for the details; I will try them out this week.

I built the cable last night and it works perfectly! (Quite
surprising considering my poor soldering skills...)
Now I have connected up a wireless keyboard and floppy
drive, and tested ZX mode and DOS mode (Flex Navigator
is great!) Next I need to add a hard disk, CDROM, mouse
and find an AT case (very hard to find in the UK...)

well, if you don't mind the extra cost, i hear there are AT backplates and power convertors for certain ATX case models. might want to check that option too. =)

Yes, today AT keyboard is rarity. Now Sprinter computer package include PS/2 keyboard with PS/2-AT keyboard convertor. Can you find it in UK?

In "5. Appendix" of "Spinter Mainboard SP2000 Assembly Guide,"
the following signals are shown.
Signal Connector pin
GND ......... 1
Analog Blue . 9
GND ......... 2
Analog Green 10
GND ......... 3
Analod Red . 11
Sync In ..... 4
Frame Sync . 12
Mode Out .... 5
Sync ....... 13
Sound Left .. 6
GND ........ 14
Sound Right . 7
VCC/+5V .... 15
Lines Sunc .. 8
GND ........ 16
I see both Frame Sync (12) and Lines Sync (8). This looks
like maybe H-Sync and V-Sync (...the standard sync signals
for TTL RGB and CGA monitors).
Frame Sync (12) = Vertical Sync ("V-Sync")
Lines Sync (8) = Horizontal Sync ("H-Sync")
1. Can I connect R/G/B and H-Sync/V-Sync to a TTL RGB Monitor,
like 9-pin old CGA -- will it work at all? (Maybe the
'analog' signals are not compatible; I wonder.)
I have also a Magnovox Monitor, CM8762 074G, which has
CVBS in, and TTL RGB (8 pin din). Same problem, I suppose.
2. Can I connect a composite monitor with an RCA jack (CVBS)?
Note that I am in the United States of America, and I received
my SP2000 over 6 months ago, but have never seen it run. I need
an elegant way of hooking up video with readily-available U.S.
monitors and parts. Any suggestions are welcome. I know that
I could interest many American people in the SP2000 if the video
were simpler to hook up. (Maybe I'm missing something... should
it be very simple?)

I think who can works, the only limitation is the palette color
because with only the RGB signal you can see 8 color, instead 16 color with bright.

Hi Douglas,
The advice I was given was correct, and pin 13 ("Sync")
corresponds to the "composite sync" of the Sprinter,
and I am using it successfully with a monitor from an
Amstrad CTM644 - I know that monitors for the Atari ST,
BBC etc would work equally well (as I have used them
on my +3).
Since I am sure I have read that the Sprinter works with
CGA monitors, your guess about the lines/frame syncs
sounds logical to me.
